HERITAGE CENTRE FOR ACTIVE citizenship

With a vision of reimagining student citizenship in the 21st century, the Heritage Centre for Active Citizenship is a trust, complete with seed funding, trustees and an advisory board, and community participation and representation as an important aspect of its functioning. It is an effort to pass the torch of citizenship to each succeeding generation whilst imparting the language of citizenship in the way we learn, discuss, debate, advocate and act on local, national and global issues.

The Centre aims to equip students with a vision for 21st century citizenship, and a framework of civic action as well as tools to acquire the civic skills

and virtues needed to be engaged, active and informed global citizens in today’s digitally connected world. The vision requires all members of the community to find opportunities to guide students and propose solutions to identified problems by contributing through their skills, experience, network and knowledge.

Other than active parent volunteers, the Centre will regularly educate and empower parents and students to develop a mindset of making thoughtful personal choices from the point of view of impact on society, treating social and cultural differences as a civic asset and maintaining a spirit of compromise when engaging with others to accomplish common goals. The Centre will also make citizenship a professional development goal for educators.

It will achieve its goals by undertaking two or three successful projects a year, developing a deeply entrenched network, and encouraging 200 children to work on projects across the Heritage School.
